Oatka Creek Watershed

District staff are working with the Town of Chili and Monroe County Health & Environmental Services to prepare a watershed plan to address water quality and quantity problems.

 

The District has received funds to improve and enhance the Braddock Bay area through an environmental assessment of farms in the watershed. This is funded through AEM.

 

The award given recognizes those towns, consultants and developers who require/design or install good stormwater management practices. Other members of the committee include staff from RIT and the Monroe County Health Department.

 

Communities in this watershed have formally agreed to adopt standard stormwater management practices to protect water quality in Irondequoit Creek.

 

District staff are working with the Monroe County Planning Dept. and the towns of Webster, Penfield and Irondequoit on the Irondequoit Bay Harbor Management plan and technical review of new development impacts on the Bay.

 

Comprised of Wayne, Monroe, Genesee, Orleans, Niagara and Erie Counties. Its purpose is to accelerate the conservation, development and utilization of natural resources, improve the general level of economic activity and to enhance the environment and standard of living in authorized RC&D areas.

 

As part of the coordinated review process of the County Planning Dept., the District reviews 1-3 proposals per week for water quality impacts.

 

The District has been approved to develop comprehensive agricultural plans on farms within this watershed, to reduce the potential for water degradation.

 

To complement the effort to protect this outstanding fisheries resource, the was approved to conduct environmental assessments on the farms in the Monroe County portion of the watershed. This is funded through AEM.
